A WONDERFUL BREAKFAST TREAT...
STZUDDLA BROD
( Serves 1)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 slices bread, cubed (stale is okay)
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Maple syrup (optional)
- Confectioner's sugar (optional)
Melt butter in skillet. Add bread cubes and toss lightly all butter
is absorbed. Pour egg over the bread cubes and mix lightly and continuously
over medium-high flame until bread cubes appear slightly toasted.
Serve warm with maple syrup and a light sprinkling of confectioner's
sugar.
This recipe evolved from one in the 1967 edition of America Cooks (which is
probably no longer in print)into a standard family breakfast. Supposedly,
it's a Pennsylvania Dutch breakfast
food, but it sure does well in our Salvadoran/Jewish/American kitchen! :-)
It's especially tasty when made with stale challah.
Of course, one serving is not enough. Just double, triple, or quadruple the
recipe by the number of hungry people. The amounts are only limited by the
size of your frying pan.
